Description: Water Right Administrative Basins is a basin polygon layer reporting the current status of the Montana water right adjudication in each basin, and is the layer behind the Decree (Adjudication) Status Map. It contains one polygon per water right basin, attributed with the basin code and name, the most recent decree issued for that basin (decree identifier, event type and description, event date, decree type code and title-cased decree type such as Temporary Preliminary Decree, Preliminary Decree, or Final Decree), the adjudication process stage, and a derived petition status of NOT YET OPEN, OPEN, or CLOSED calculated from the notice of petition period event begin date and response due date. Polygon area and perimeter are carried in both metric and English units. The layer lets staff and the public see at a glance which basins have been decreed, what type of decree is in effect, and whether the window to file objections or petitions is currently open.
